Julian Santamaria, or Santa Gross, an artist from Colombia. He has been working on Street art and illustration in the streets for 10 years.
My artwork is born from what I feel. It is a response to the emotional states I move through, to the thoughts that inhabit my mind, and to moments of change, doubt, or intensity that I experience in the present. I paint as a way of understanding myself and of bringing outward what I cannot always express with words.
Traveling, observing, and remembering are part of my process, but so is looking inward. Every place I visit and every emotion I experience leaves a mark on me, and that trace is transformed into color, pattern, and form. The animals, faces, and textures that appear in my work function as symbols of what I am emotionally going through.
Painting is my most honest means of communication: a space where what I feel, what I think, and who I am at that moment converge. Each work is a fragment of my inner state, a way of sharing my vulnerability and connecting from a human place.
From that Santa was able to create kickass murals in medium and really big format, as for personal artwork, international street art festivals, and big brands.
